A Recap of the 2017 Hurricane Season

The 2017 Hurricane Season was one of the strongest in recent memory. Millions were left without power and for those without generators, the time was even more difficult. Here is a brief recap to show you just how severe this season was:

Total Number of Storms: 16

Hurricanes: 9

Category 3+: 5

Named Storms of 2017

  • Tropical Storm Arlene
  • Tropical Storm Bret
  • Tropical Storm Cindy
  • Tropical Depression Four
  • Tropical Storm Don
  • Tropical Storm Emily
  • Hurricane Franklin
  • Hurricane Gert
  • Hurricane Harvey
  • Hurricane Irma
  • Hurricane Jose
  • Hurricane Katia
  • Hurricane Lee
  • Hurricane Maria
  • Hurricane Nate
  • Tropical Storm Ophelia

Strongest Storm: Hurricane Maria

Maria packed a serious punch throughout the Caribbean and it hit the island of Dominica with Category 5 force. It is one of the strongest storms ever recorded and it intensified on a North-Northwest path at an alarming rate. Puerto Rico may never recover from the wreckage and nearly EVERY structure on the island of Dominica was destroyed. Power has still not been restored.

Scariest Moment for America

Hurricane Irma was on a path for Miami with Category 4-5 force and the peninsula of Florida looked to be in serious trouble. Millions evacuated Southern Florida and the Keys with just days remaining before the blow. Luckily, the storm took a westward turn and grazed the Western Coast of Florida. It still caused MASSIVE damage in the Keys and coastal areas, but the worst was avoided.

If the 2017 season can’t convince you that you need a generator, we don’t know what will. Here in Wilton and Bridgeport, storms like this aren’t very common, but they do happen! Fallen trees, wind storms and other storms can leave you powerless as well and Cannondale wants to keep your lights on.
