What To Do If You Lose Power This Memorial Day

Memorial Day is traditionally a time for outdoor parties and a little kickoff to the exciting Summer that is approaching. Unfortunately, Memorial Day 2017 looks like it is going to be a bit wet up here in the northeast, and we are going to have to adjust. Here are some things to keep in mind if the poor weather leaves you powerless this weekend!

Prepare Yourself

With rain in the forecast for this weekend, we all sigh with disappointment as we rearrange our Memorial Day festivities. But what if the impending storms knocked the power out of place? It’s not likely, but 500,000 people lose power in the United States everyday, and you never can be too careful– especially when the party is at your house! As a homeowner, you always need to plan for the worst, especially on a holiday weekend.

Keep Coolers on Deck

According to the U.S FDA, meat can only be left out of the refrigerator for two hours until it enters the ‘danger zone.’ If you don’t have a standby generator ready to leap into action, that meat might be going to waste. If bad weather is approaching, it might be best to head to the local beer distributor and pick up a few bags of ice. When the power does go out, you can put your most valuable refrigerator items in the cooler and they should stay good for at least 12-24 hours.

Stay With a Friend

When the power goes out in your home, it can be a scary and uncomfortable place to be. Being that it is Memorial Day, and the American spirit is high, you could ask some friends to join them for festivities in their homes with power. Or if you’re looking to the be the cool friend, you could have a standby generator and be the conquering hero of the neighborhood when the power goes out. It’s your choice!

Call Cannondale

As we said earlier, the best way to protect your home from power outages is with a professionally-installed standby generator. They automatically detect when the power is out so you don’t have to miss a beat. We have saved many holidays in the past and if unfortunate events occur this weekend, we will be there to keep the party going.
